Serengeti was established in 1959, and is Tanzania’s third-largest national park, covering 14,763 square kilometers, and serves as the heart of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem a 30,000 square kilometer area that spans parts of Kenya and Tanzania, renowned for the annual wildebeest migration.

 

Recognized by UNESCO as both a World Heritage Site and a Man and Biosphere Reserve since 1982, Serengeti has also been awarded Africa's Leading National Park for seven consecutive years (2019–2025).

 

Serengeti offers unmatched wildlife experiences, including the iconic Great Migration, where over 1.5 million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of zebras, gazelles, and elands move in search of water and grazing. It boasts the highest concentration of large carnivores, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas, as well as over 28 herbivore species such as buffalo, hippos, and zebras. With more than 540 bird species, including many migratory ones, it’s a paradise for birdwatchers.

 

The park is also rich in cultural history, with visible traces of the Maasai, Ikoma, and other tribes through rock paintings and historical sites. Serengeti offers a range of unique tourism activities like hot air balloon rides, game drives, bush meals, walking safaris, birdwatching, and cultural tours, providing visitors with unforgettable encounters in one of Africa's most iconic wilderness areas.
